Greetings, my friends.
On May 12, 2020, NAWCJ was advised that the Workers’ Compensation Institute (WCI) would be postponing its August 16 – 20, 2020 Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference in Orlando, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Each year, NAWCJ meets and presents a “Judiciary College” for workers’ compensation adjudicators from across the country within, and as part of, the WCI conference. Postponement of the WCI conference unfortunately necessitates postponement of the NAWCJ Judiciary College as well.
We had an outstanding program developed for the 2020 Judiciary College, one characterized by many as the best in NAWCJ’s history. While we will be unable to present that content to you live, in Orlando, this August, we are actively considering alternative means of delivering the programming developed for this year’s Judiciary College. Please be assured that NAWCJ will return to Orlando next year, August 22-25, 2021, with an even better and expanded curriculum.
There have been many developments in the law and practice of workers’ compensation in 2020, from substantive changes in the law to protect first responders and essential workers, to increased reliance on telemedicine, to procedural changes wrought by the need to conduct hearings remotely, to the cyber security challenges of working from the “cloud,” among many others. As NAWCJ endeavors to stay “ahead of the curve” in preparing and educating workers’ compensation adjudicators, look for the lessons of 2020 to be reflected in next year’s curriculum.
We hope you will join NAWCJ in Orlando, August 22-25, 2021, as we continue our effort to provide cutting edge judicial education for the workers’ compensation community.
Hon. Bruce E. Moore
President, NAWCJ 2019-2020
